"THE LURE OF THE ISLAND"
JOAN L. GARCIA
20 x 30
This painting started out as just a landscape overlooking Tampa Bay, but it lacked a focal point. That inspired the addition of the detail of this fishing pole and lure. Fishermen have a certain attachment to their favorite lures.  This Yo-Zuri has caught many a Lady Fish, Snook and Jack off the shores of Anna Maria Island, Florida.  In fact, if you look closely you can see people at the shoreline and the Skyway Bridge on the horizon.  If you know AMI you will know the setting for this painting.
"BEAN POINT, AMI, FL"
11" x 40"
Bean Point on Anna Maria Island is at the southwestern point of Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. The north shore beaches are the most beautiful on the island and sunsets are spectacular. Everyone gathers on Bean Point at sunset to watch for the Green Flash. This fisherman spent his childhood summers on the island fishing and cast-netting.
"NORTH SHORE LANDING, AMI"
From the series: Birds of Anna Maria Island
8" X 16"                oil on canvas
Painted on the beach on the north shore of Anna Maria Island this gull and home depict the Florida of years gone by.  Many varieties of shore birds cruise the area but the most comical are the gulls.  I photographed this one (after repeated tosses of popcorn) on Bean Point as it was coming in for a landing.  The paint contains grains of the white Gulf sand as the wind came up unexpectedly.
