16" x 20", oil on gallery wrapped canvas

This painting was commissioned for the Summer Rain Kennel in Marysville, WA. Phoenix is a champion Australian Shepherd and is the mother of many beautiful offspring.

This breed, the cowboys' herding dog of choice, is a medium-sized worker with a keen, penetrating gaze in the eye. Phoenix is known for her intense gaze and the eyes in this painting seem to follow the viewer. This was accomplished via multiple glazes. Her merle coat is a mottled pattern of grays, burnt sienna, ochre, black, cream and white. The underpainting of Paynes Gray helped achieve the various colors in the snow. Aussies are remarkably intelligent, tireless, and trainable partner for work or sport.

This is a commissioned painting a similar size in oil would be $800 to $1000. Commissions are painted from the owners photos of their pet.
