PET PORTRAITS IN COLORED PENCIL & WATERCOLOR
PHOENIX
16" x 20", oil on gallery wrapped canvas

This painting was commissioned for the Summer Rain Kennel in Marysville, WA. Phoenix is a champion Australian Shepherd and is the mother of many beautiful offspring.

This breed, the cowboys' herding dog of choice, is a medium-sized worker with a keen, penetrating gaze and the eyes in this painting seem to follow the viewer. This was accomplished via multiple glazes. Her merle coat is a mottled pattern of grays, burnt sienna, ochre, black, cream and white. The underpainting of Paynes Gray helped achieve the various colors in the snow. Aussies are remarkably intelligent, tireless, and trainable partners for work or sport.

This is a commissioned painting and was painted from the owners photos of their pet. Contact the artist for more information about commissioning a portrait of your pet.
